Monsoon Strikes Back: Heavy Rain Wrecks Kolkata During Durga Puja, Delhi and UP Swelter Under Heat

Rain Havoc:The monsoon is slowly withdrawing from the country, but it is wreaking havoc in many states. According to the Meteorological Department, some areas in Northeast and South India may still see significant rainfall. Meanwhile, heavy rains in some districts of West Bengal and Maharashtra have disrupted life and even claimed lives.

Weather Conditions in These States

There is a possibility of light rain in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan. In many districts of Bihar, lightning alert has been issued with lightning and cloud roaring. Clear weather is expected in most areas.

No rain is expected in Delhi-NCR this week. The capital will experience humid heat until the end of September, although some cool winds may bring some relief. Rising pollution levels are causing problems for people.

Massive Damage in Marathwada

Eight people have died in Maharashtra's Marathwada region due to continuous rain for the past four days. In Dharashiv district, more than 750 houses were damaged, and crops on more than 33,000 hectares of farmland were destroyed. Authorities used helicopters and boats to rescue

People stranded by the floods

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government is taking all possible steps to deliver relief material to the affected people. Many dams are in spate due to continuous rains that started on 20 September. Three in Latur, two in Beed, and one person in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded, and Dharashiv died in incidents like lightning and drowning.

Rain's Impact on Durga Puja in Kolkata

The torrential rains between Durga Puja in Kolkata and surrounding districts affected life. Many areas were flooded, and road traffic came to a standstill. Ten people died in incidents due to electrocution by electric poles. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced compensation of Rs five lakh to the families of the deceased and a job to a family member.

Traffic Impact

57 flights were canceled at Kolkata Airport from Monday night to Tuesday morning, while 31 flights were delayed. Roads, trains, and metro services were also affected due to rain.
